I grew up on a farm in rural Saskatchewan, picking wildflowers, wild roses and even the weeds growing along the ditches and pastures. I’d fill sugar bowls and glasses with whatever I found. I was always making something: a poem, a drawing, a craft or a little arrangement to share.
Long before I worked in a flower shop, I made corsages for my own graduation and wedding flowers for friends and family. When I finally had the chance to work as a floral designer, I jumped in. For more than seven years, I made bridal bouquets, centrepieces and flowers to celebrate and remember the people my customers loved.
I later became an Educational Assistant so I could spend more time with my family. I loved that work, but I always hoped to return to flowers. When I learned Melville might lose its flower shop, I knew it was time. Our community needs a place to find flowers for the moments when they say what we can’t.
